Question by shawty: My car needs to go to the dealer for regular maintenance but it has damage?
I just got a letter from my car dealer ship, i pay monthly for my car and it’s saying i need to make an appointment to get regular maintenance done, but there is a lot of damage to it right now.. will they take my car away if i bring it in?
Sorry- im making payments monthly .. no lease .. its financing

no lol they will do the maintainence as long as it is running, the only way they take it away is if you dont pay.

Question by addg23: Why do car dealers give you so much less for a trade and then turn it around to make so much more?
I’ve seen dealers give you way less for a car that’s been well maintained and then turn to sell it for up to $ 5000.00 more. What’s a good trade price when comparing on the Kelly Blue Book prices under TRADE vs PRIVATE SELL vs RETAIL?

The dealers have something called a Black Book as opposed to the Blue Book, this is how they know what the trade value of the vehicle is. Unless you are a registered dealer you will not be able to gain access to this kind of info. The answer to your first question is that car dealers are in business to make money. Unless you are a skilled negotiator I would suggest that you just sell your car on the street and get the best you can for it. Even if you get a dealer to give you a higher trade in value for your car, they will get that money somewhere else in the contract for the sale of your new vehicle. It is a game on numbers. The best time to purchase a car from a dealer is at the end of the month, or at the end of the year. They are generally willing to take more of a loss then and complete the sale. If you feel that you are not getting the deal you want get up and walk away from the table. Until you sign the contract you are not obligated to go through with the deal! Good Luck!

Question by manw/thegoldengun: How much of a return do car dealers expect to get on repairs to trade-ins they sell?
I am interested in a 20 year old car that has only 75K on it. The dealer has shown me the paper-work for the repairs they did to the vehicle ($ 1100). They are asking $ 3900 for the vehicle, the salesmen told me the higher price is due to the low miles and recent repairs. NADA has a clean retail listed as $ 2500. I also checked similar prices for cars of the same make model etc. (avg $ 2450).

It’s usually BS. Most dealers just do driveability repairs (alignment, tires, wheels, possibly cv joints, etc.) but don’t really do heavy repairs or replace aftermarket parts with oem parts in the case of modified vehicles. Also…any repairs are in house and hence don’t really cost them as much as the retail price quoted.
Tell him you’ll pay $ 2450 not a dime more; if he doesn’t bite buy it from a private party. YOU don’t pay for repairs, they come from the original owner as a reduction in value of their trade in.

Question by Renee: I bought a car from a used car dealer in missouri and now i find out that there is a lien on the car. What do?
I recently purchased a used car from a dealer in branson, mo. The title they gave me to get transfered didnt say anything about a lien but now i have recieved a letter from the state saying there is a lien on the car and i must get a lien release from the bank that has it. What do I do. And is it illegal for the dealer to sell it to me like that.

The dealer cant sell a car with a lien on it (no one can its illegal to do so). Take the car and paperwork back and have the dealer straighten out the lien. Or if he cant return the car and get your money back…………..md

Question by BMWTech: Why do so many people think that all automotive technicians and car dealers are trying to take your money?
I have been in the field at several different shops- independent, Ford, and now BMW. A lot of the post on here are people bashing on car dealers and technicians saying they are trying to take your money. We have to make a living too along with that we are not all shady.. yes i will agree there are some but not near as many as you might thing. Why do people always blame us when something goes wrong on their car after we worked on it even if it is completely unrelated?
